The report first sums up the development of the global and Chinese mobile communications industries in 2004. Then, it describes the characteristics of different parts of the industry chain of China's mobile communications industry, and analyzes competition situation in the industry before presenting comprehensive assessment of operators' and leading vendors' competitiveness.

The report especially points out the following: In 2004, China pushed the development of 3G mobile communications in a moderate and pragmatic manner. Field tests on 3G network technology were completed. In the tests, a large number of key vendors around the world and systems that follow the three mainstream network standards were pooled together to test functions and interconnectivity. The tests lay a solid foundation for promoting the development of 3G in the next step. Breakthroughs have been made in the system equipment that support TD-SCDMA, core mobile phone technology, chips and test instruments. With mobile telecom operators at the core, the industry chain is conducting closer cooperation, which promotes the competition and partnership between participants of the industry chain. On the whole, China still lags behind developed countries in the field of mobile communications technology.

After analyzing major factors affecting the development of China's mobile communications industry from 2005-2009, the report presents qualitative and quantitative forecast of the industry. Finally, it provides development strategy and recommendations for operators and leading vendors respectively.
