This report presents major operation indicators of China’s energy industry, energy consumption of major industries as well as energy import and export in recent years, involving over 120 charts which are updated quarterly.

Industrialization and urbanization are experiencing rapid development in China, so energy consumption is still growing. In 2009, China's coal import volume surged to 125 million tons suddenly, up 211.9% year on year, turning China from a net coal exporter into a net coal importer. In 2010, China’s coal import volume of the first seven months reached more than 80 million tons, and the full-year import volume will exceed that in 2009. As the coal import volume soars, the security of coal resources is directly related with the stability of coal price in China. In 2010, Chinese coal enterprises actively go abroad to explore coal resources.

From January to June of 2010, China's apparent oil consumption reached 220 million tons, up 15.1% year on year; the import dependency rate was 55.14%, up 4.2 percentage points year on year. Specifically speaking, the apparent consumption of crude oil was 215 million tons, up 18.6% year on year; the import dependence rate was 54.26%, up 5.7 percentage points year on year.
