Frozen pork exports up seven percent in China

Data from the China Animal Agriculture Association show that China exported around 268,883 tons of frozen pork in 2006, increasing 7.3 percent from the previous year, while the export value recorded US$401 million and was down 1.3 percent year-on-year during the period.

Hong Kong and North Korea maintain the top two importers for China's pork products, with an import value of around US$158 million and US$109 million, respectively. Following are two new emerging markets-Vietnam (US$36.5 million) and Kyrgyzstan (US$23.6 million).

Exports to Russia declined significantly to only about US$9.6 million for the year, comparing to US$65 million in 2005.

Heilongjiang has replaced Sichuan as the largest pork exporting province in China. They both exceeded export value of US$100 million. Central China's Hubei province recorded a remarkable export rise to US$172,000 in 2006, up 1,220 percent year-on-year.
