GENENCOR International Inc, a unit of the world's leading food and consumer product ingredient producer Danisco A/S, said it plans to open a research center in Shanghai to facilitate development. The company opened a 200 million yuan (US$26 million) plant in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, on Friday to make enzyme products, used as catalysts in food processing, industrial specialties and textiles, among others. The company's sales rose 10 percent to 700 million yuan last year in the Asia Pacific region.
