Vietnam will export more fruits and vegetables to China in the coming years owing to the higher demand of some southern cities of China, local newspaper Saigon Liberation reported Wednesday.

In this month, the volume of vegetables exported to China per week is estimated to be 130 tons, up from 110 tons per week in last month, as the demand of some cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen is rising. The vegetables exported to China include haricot bean, mushroom, green pineapple, lettuce, corn and others.

The export volume of fruits to China is also increasing, especially like durian, mango, star apples, thick-skinned orange, mangosteen, cherimoya. The export price of these fruits has risen up 3 to 5 percent against that in March.

Vietnam exported 71 million U.S. dollars worth of fruits and vegetables in the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year rise of 13.9 percent, according to Vietnamese Trade Ministry.

The country has targeted fruits and vegetables export revenues of 700 million dollars in 2010 and one billion dollars in 2015, up from 263 million dollars in 2006.
