According the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration, more than 5.8 million vehicle crashes happen in the U.S. every year, of which 23 percent are weather related. Baron Director of Business Development, Chris Carr, says the company is working with automakers, suppliers and insurance companies to implement a Driver Safety Program that will provide location-specific weather alerts and road conditions to drivers.
The real-time meteorological information will help reduce injuries and death due to weather-related crashes and improve the overall experience of the driver. Baron provides the weather information to automakers via an API (application programming interface).
Carr says “as the connected car takes off, with services increasing, we expect to see a reduction in accidents.”
