China Stock Listed Home Appliance Companies Report, 2006-2007

In 2006, the global economy maintained sound development momentum, and there was a steady growth for China home appliance industry, whose scale is continuously expanding and status of international manufacturing center has been intensified. Though fast growth, the industry also faces such challenges as the rising price of raw materials, the appreciation of Renminbi, rapid reform in sales channels, increasing requirements of energy conservation and environmental production as well as the shrinking profits, etc. This also facilitates the adjustment of industry structure and product structure of home appliance industry.

Compared to 2005, there was a slight drop in the growth of China home appliance industry in 2006, in which the growth speed of both home appliance manufacturing industry and home electronics manufacturing industry occur to big changes compared to the previous year. The gross industrial output value and sales income of home appliance industry in 2006 was up to RMB 479.756 billion with a year-on-year rise of 20.07% and RMB 454.273 billion with a year-on-year rise of 18.84% respectively. Regarding home electronics manufacturing industry, the sales revenues of household video equipment manufacturing industry increased by 10.53% compared to the preceding year; and that of household acoustic equipment manufacturing industry up by 5.44% year-on-year.

In 2006, the profit growth of home appliance manufacturing industry grew considerably, which was mainly attributed to the sharp rise in profit growth of refrigerating appliance industry. Among sub-industries of home electronics industry, in 2006, the profits of video equipment manufacturing industry still dropped compared to the previous year and economic benefits decreased sharply, but there was a rise in profits of acoustic equipment manufacturing industry. Even so, the home electronics industry is accelerating to suffer losses.

As for the yield of home appliances in 2006, the yield of refrigerator and fan increased fast; in the aspect of home electronic products, the yield of color TV and video recorder grew slightly. Regarding export, industry export growth decreased. The revenue concentricity of home appliance industry and home electronic industry both decreased, down by 0.58% and 4.21% respectively. In addition, large enterprises occupy the leading position in home appliance industry regarding scale and have big influences on the industry; in China home electronic industry, foreign-funded enterprises are still in the dominant position.

In general, the achieved profits of China home appliance industry in 2006 were better than expected. In 2007, the yield and sales speed of the industry rose significantly. At present, China air-conditioner industry led by Gree brand is achieving more and more obvious competitive advantages, and the leading position of Qingdao Haier's refrigerator business will be further consolidated by sponsoring Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. Resources concentrating on FP TV production and being implemented production capacity expansion plan create opportunities for Xoceco to realize big-span growth of sales scale.

In 2007, consumption upgrading, the strengthening of domestic demand policy and urbanization will facilitate the continuous growth of China home appliance industry. Yet, the declined growth of real estate market is unfavorable for the development of the industry. Due to the influence of economic structure, the consumption in domestic market will not be the main driving force for economic growth in the short term. But the 10%-or-above growth rate of domestic consumption still speeds up the development of durable consumer goods industry. Along with the gradual enforcement of domestic demand policies in China, the consumption of domestic demand will be the main incentive to the development of China home appliance industry in the coming several years.

Judging from the demand abroad, the growth of global economy will slow down in 2007. China's huge trade surplus and RMB appreciation will not only cause unfavorable influences to its macro-economy, but also affect the demand of international market. Thus, there will be a decrease in the growth of the exportation of China-made home appliances. In spite of unfavorable factors, the international market demand will still be an incentive to the growth of China home appliance  ndustry for China's stable position of the world's main production base of home appliances.
