So far, the information industry has become the main drive for the growth of China's secondary industry. The annual industrial added value of the information industry in 2004 was ¥565 billion Yuan, increased 41% year on year, which was 24.3% higher than the national industrial growth. The Chinese government lays special emphasis on the development of information industry, centers on the development of high and new technological industries, and considers informationization as the momentum to the industrialization development. Information industry has great potential, whose development will greatly improve the development of electronic component manufacturing.
China is the acknowledged global passive component manufacturing center. The research report conducted by Global Sources showed that over 1000 Chinese suppliers produced 100 billion capacitors, 164 billion resistors and 7 billion inductors in 2004, among which the output of the resistors took one third of the world total supply. However, China is promoting the informationization process under the circumstances that the economic development is far behind from some developed countries like the US, thus some problems are inevitable. For instance, the actual effect of “exchanging technology by market” was not as good as expected. There was still a gap for domestic enterprises to master the emphasis, speed of the development of the information technology, and the industry is still facing problems related to technology and market.
Based on data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Customs General Administration of China, Ministry of Information Industry and China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF), the report analyzes the production, sales, market environment, industry structure, imports and exports of the electronic component manufacturing, and forecasts the future development of the industry in China.
