Chinese manufacturer Geely has experience a dramatic loss in sales, with the manufacturer selling only 21,800 vehicles in July, cbh.com reported today. The sales result is 26.4 percent less than what the manufacturer achieved in June. Geely dealers are looking at a rough couple of months to come.

Geely's sales target for this year is set at 480,000 vehicles, with only 49 percent of that amount being achieved so far. Two of the manufacturer's top selling vehicles, the CK (pictured) and FC sedans, have seen their sales fall over 40 percent compared to last year. The two cars have also slipped outside of the manufacturer's top four selling vehicles.

Asian President of J.D. Power and Associates Zeng Zhiling believes that the key reason behind Geely's poor sales is how outdated some of its models, especially the CK, have become.

Liu Jinliang, the manufacturer's vice president, said that Geely will be focusing on bringing in more models to its subdivisions, with the FC and CK to be incorporated into the Gleagle brand. Meanwhile, the MK and MK2 will be sold as Englon models. Rebadging will be completed by 2012, Mr. Liu said. The manufacturer will begin dividing its dealers among its three brands, Gleagle, Englon and Emgrand. Geely hopes that via this division, it will increase brand visibility and sales returns.

July is a traditionally slow season for the automobile market in China, with domestic manufacturers' passenger vehicle sales falling 18.14 percent from the previous month and 3.12 percent from last year. Rival manufacturer BYD also saw its sales fall.
