Alibaba, Tencent and Baidu, three web portals in the China market, have cooperated with handset vendors to launch customized smartphones to provide mobile cloud computing services, according to handset makers.
Alibaba has cooperated with handset vendor K-Touch to launch smartphones featuring the in-house-developed Ali cloud operating system for use with various e-commerce services on the Taobao portal operated by Alibaba, the sources indicated.
Tencent has cooperated with China Telecom and five handset vendors, Huawei Device, ZTE, Coolpad, K-Touch and Hisense to launch smartphones using Tencent's and China Telecom's mobile Internet-access services.
Baidu plans to launch smartphones featuring its mobile services in November 2011, with Dell being the initial partner and Nokia, Samsung Electronics, HTC, Motorola Mobility and Sony Ericsson to be possible additional partners in the future, the sources said.
