VW's New Electric Golf to Hit Chinese Market in 2013

   Date:2012-01-05

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 4) - Following VW's first global electric vehicle fleet making rounds in Beijing last April and stops to other Chinese cities later that year, more news has emerged regarding the electric version of the manufacturer's best-selling Golf compact. According to a report appearing on xkb.com.cn, the new electric Golf is scheduled to hit the market in 2013.

In order to help spread information about its new energy-efficient plans, VW has been holding promotional events in China, with one held in Shenzhen, Guangdong last month. The Golf EV (pictured) has become the focus of attention at these events.

The Golf EV is equipped with a battery motor housed in the front of the car. The motor has a maximum output of 85 kW, equivalent to 115 hp, and can produce 270 Nm of torque. The car can accelerate from a standing stop to 100 km/h in only 11.8 seconds, and boasts a maximum speed of 135 km/h. VW has taken into account user concerns and equipped the motor with an artificial engine noise in order to alert pedestrians.
