Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 9) - Perhaps thanks to the success of the Dongfeng Peugeot joint venture, PSA may begin importing vehicles to China. PSA's Chinese branch has already sent a request for cooperation to Dongfeng Peugeot, with plans to have the joint venture aid in importing new models to the country, Beijing News reported today.
According to the report, PSA has requested the joint venture to select 20 dealerships to sell imported models. However no final decision between the companies has yet to be reached. "Currently [PSA] is waiting for Dongfeng Peugeot to respond," a source from PSA China said.
The joint venture also needs to consider whether or not it is worth supporting PSA's import business, which is currently limited to a few thousand sales. "We need to consider whether or not [this decision] will influence sales of our domestically manufactured vehicles," an official from Dongfeng Peugeot said.
The decision to sell imported vehicles in China is still in the planning phase, with the above JV executive saying that, "it was too early to discuss [details]."
Currently the Peugeot 4008 and Citroën C4 Aircross (pictured) are among the models the manufacturer is planning to bring over. Plans to sell the imported 3008 HYbrid4 have temporarily been put on hold.
