Gasgoo.com (Shanghai January 17) - The latest statistics show that Guangqi Honda sold a total of 362,000 vehicles in 2011, the Beijing Morning Post reported today. The slight sales increase was already a large achievement for the joint venture, whose production numbers last year were drastically affected by the Japanese earthquake in March and the ensuing auto parts shortage.
In the wake of the positive performance report, Guangqi Honda has announced that it will be adding two new hybrids to its new 2012 line up, which will include a brand new Accord, City and Odyssey. The Accord (pictured above) was one of the joint venture's best selling models, with a total of 160,735 units sold. Furthermore, the JV confirmed that it will begin manufacturing the Fit pure electric (pictured below) in the country by the end of the year. The Fit will be targeted towards Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shenzhen and other cities with relatively mature EV markets.
Guangqi Honda Sales Director He Xianqing is very confident in the joint venture's prospects for the new year. "We believe that we can maintain growth of ten percent," he said.
"We have a few new innovations in store," Mr. He added.
