ZMC gets USP certification

China's Zhejiang Medicine Company (ZMC) said its CoQ10 and Beta-Carotene USP grade ingredients have been granted the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) verification mark under USP's voluntary Verified Dietary Supplement Ingredients Program.

The USP is a private, non-profit, standards-setting organization that advances public health by ensuring the quality and consistency of medicines, promoting the safe and proper use of medications, and verifying ingredients in dietary supplements.

USP's decision is based upon three factors; (a) a good manufacturing practices audit conducted January 26-29, 2007; (b) a review of the manufacturing and quality control/quality assurance documentation; and (c) laboratory testing of randomly chosen lots of each of the aforementioned ingredients.

The USP verification of CoQ10 and Beta-Carotene verifies that the ingredients tested: are consistent in quality from batch to batch; meet label or certificate of analysis claims for identity, strength, purity and quality; and are prepared in accordance with accepted good manufacturing practices.

ZMC President, Mr Scott Steinford said, ZMC is the first supplier to have received this verification of CoQ10 and Beta-Carotene, a first step in what is expected to be an ongoing interaction with USP to support the numerous ingredients produced.
