YAHOO! China said yesterday it plans to match university students who are seeking jobs with its parent's vast network of corporate clients as it bids to revive its business by introducing new products amid fierce competition.
The portal, which is being restructured, will also integrate its online search, community and news services under a unified platform to build the country's biggest online "living city," it said in a release.
Yahoo! China, controlled by the nation's No. 1 e-commerce firm Alibaba.com, is beefing its muscles to compete in China's Internet market as Baidu and Google introduced services, including online map searches and spreadsheets.
The new section, called "3-D Resume," was launched this month for university graduates to seek jobs or internship by using texts, graphics, music and videos online to promote themselves to potential employers, the portal said.
The initiative is expected to expand the portal's popularity among college students, whose information will likely be exposed to millions of Alibaba's corporate clients.
"Through our communication with more than 20 million small- and medium-sized firms on Alibaba, their biggest concern is lack of talent," said Jin Jianhang, president of Yahoo! China. "The 3-D resume will provide the channel."
Alibaba will support fully the portal's expansion, which "will enable Yahoo! China not to worry about funding."
