Protect vital data

   Date:2008/09/22     Source:

DATA protection is an increasing concern. Companies in today's digitized world can suffer devastating strategic and legal setbacks if vital information is lost. Everyday mishaps like a BlackBerry or laptop inadvertently left in a taxi can compromise critical corporate data, while customer and employee data, presumed to be stored securely on a server, can be hacked into and sold on the Internet.

These and other related challenges require dynamic data protection strategies that involve every department in a company and must also often be tailored to address specific legal and practical restrictions that vary from country to country. Experts in data protection, Grace Chen, a partner in the Corporate/Commercial Group of Bird & Bird in Beijing, and Ben Pasco, managing director of Legal Technologies Asia Pacific for Kroll Ontrack, will offer solutions to these issues tomorrow from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the Regal International East Asia Hotel.

Foreign investment in China

The changing face of foreign investment in China is the focus of a European Chamber of Commerce event tomorrow from 8am at the Radisson Hotel.

Patrick Horgan, managing director of EMEA-Asia Business of APCO Worldwide, will look at how China's changing status and growth model is affecting foreign investors. Horgan will also do an assessment of the link between the change in China's growth model (a shift to domestic demand as a growth driver, as opposed to exports and fixed asset investment) and the change in China's cost profile.

Based in Brussels, Horgan lived and worked in China from 1989 and was formerly a managing director of APCO Worldwide in China.
