Quanta Computer, benefiting from new notebook models from Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Apple, shipped 4.5 million notebooks and generated consolidated revenues of NT$97.02 billion (US$3.07 billion) in April 2010, up 5.1% on month and 75.9% on year.
Although both shipments and revenues in April were a new historic record for the company, Quanta maintains its second-quarter notebook shipment forecast of 15-20% sequential growth from 11 million units in the first quarter.
Wistron announced consolidated revenues of NT$44.01 billion for April, down 18.9% on month, but up 8.1% on year.The company shipped 1.9 million notebooks, 350,000 LCD TVs, 700,000 desktops, 600,000 LCD monitors, 350,000 handheld devices and 100,000 servers.
Commenting on market watchers' analysis that some of the company's clients have held back their orders for April, Wistron pointed out the drop followed standard seasonal patterns and the volume should start picking up in May. The company still maintains its second-quarter notebook shipment forecast of 5-10% sequential growth.
Inventec, affected by air traffic suspensions in Europe, saw its April revenues drop 15.3% on month and 37% on year to NT$20.64 billion with notebook shipment of 1-1.1 million units.
As the company has already started shipping retrieved notebook orders from Toshiba this month (May), the company's shipments in May are expected to see obvious growth, according to sources from notebook players.
Compal Electronics has not yet announced its April revenue results, but the sources estimate its notebook shipments for the month to reach only 3.9-4 million units as its netbook shipments to Acer started to weaken.
