Compal lands all-in-one PC orders from Acer

Compal Electronics has secured orders for all-in-one PCs from Acer, with shipments to begin in the third quarter, according to industry sources. Acer is Compal's second all-in-one client next to Asustek Computer, the sources pointed out.

Compal is expected to ship about 300,000 all-in-one PCs to Asustek in 2010 and with the new orders from Acer, the total shipment volume is expected to be even higher, the sources added.

In addition to Compal, other first-tier notebook makers Quanta Computer, Wistron and Inventec are all involved in all-in-one PC manufacturing.

Quanta's major all-in-one PC clients including Apple, Sony, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Dell, and is expected to ship five million units in 2010.

Wistron, having orders from Acer and Lenovo, is expected to ship one million units in 2010, while Inventec's all-in-one PC joint venture with TPV Technology is also expected to ship one million units with orders from Toshiba and Lenovo.

Global all-in-one PC shipments were about 6.5 million units in 2009 and with prices set to start dropping while all-in-one models gradually replace traditional desktops, global shipment volumes could reach over 10 million units in 2010, according to figures from Digitimes Research.
