Micron, Inotera deny acquisition rumors

Rumors have started to circulate again that Micron Technology is pursuing plans to acquire full ownership of Taiwan-based Inotera Memories. But both firms have denied the possibility.

Earlier in 2011, Nanya Technology refuted a report claiming that the company would sell its stake in Inotera to Micron.

Unless the Formosa Plastics Group stops funding its DRAM affiliates, Micron will not stop maintaining the existing ties with its Taiwan partners, industry sources believe. The parent company of Nanya and Inotera is Taiwan's largest petrochemical business group, playing a key role in providing sufficient capital and backing to the pair.

Formed as a 50:50 fab joint venture between Nanya and Qimonda, Inotera commenced operations in mid-2004. Micron in November 2008 completed the purchase of Qimonda's stake in Inotera and began to receive the output formerly reserved for Qimonda from Inotera's 12-inch wafer fab.

Inotera now has a monthly capacity of 130,000 12-inch wafers split equally between Micron and Nanya.
