Bruker, US-based leading provider of high-performance scientific instruments for molecular and materials research, has opened a major applications, training and service center in Shanghai. Bringing together all of Bruker’s East China operations, including the recently acquired Bruker Chemical and Applied Markets division (GC and LC separation systems, plus GC-MS, LC-MS and ICP-MS systems for environmental, petro/chem and food safety applications) and the Bruker Nano Surfaces division (AFM systems and probes, Stylus & Optical Metrology systems), the new Shanghai facility offers Bruker’s customers access to a multi-technology applications, training and demonstration Center of Excellence to support research collaborations in China.

Bruker, a leading provider of high-performance scientific instruments and solutions for molecular and materials research as well as for industrial, clinical and applied analysis, has long been committed to China. Its long-standing presence in and support for the Chinese research community began with initial NMR installations almost 40 years ago. Bruker has achieved clear market and technology leadership in many fields, including magnetic resonance (NMR, preclinical MRI, EPR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), stylus and optical metrology, X-ray diffraction and crystallography, X-ray and spark-OES elemental analysis, life-science, clinical and applied market separations and mass spectrometry, as well as infrared and Raman spectroscopy.

The new Shanghai facility complements Bruker’s previous major applications and customer support center in Beijing, which is presently being expanded again by approximately 50 percent – reflecting Bruker’s continued rapid growth in China to over $100 million in annual revenue. Bruker also intends to open an additional service and sales office in Guangzhou later this year.

Mr Frank Laukien, president and CEO of Bruker Corporation, commented “Bruker has come a long way since our first attendance at a scientific conference in Beijing in 1974. My Bruker colleagues and I are very excited by the new opportunities for customer collaborations, training and support, and applications research in China offered by our second major Chinese facility here in Shanghai.”

Ms Lili Wang, general manager of the Bruker AXS division in China, added, “The new Bruker Shanghai Center of Excellence brings all of our operating divisions together in support of our customers. This development provides us with the infrastructure, high-performance systems and highly qualified staff to provide comprehensive scientific and engineering expertise across many life-science and analytical technologies, for the benefit of our Chinese academic, government, clinical and industrial customers.”
