Guangdong initiates pharmaceutical self-regulation system

   Date:2006/12/31
Guangdong Pharmaceutical Professional Association announced the self-regulatory code of standards in local pharmaceutical sector.

Passed by the association's congress, the standards specify penalties for companies in the south China province that violate the code.

It is the first detailed and complete set of self-regulatory rules in the Chinese pharmaceutical profession.

The standards require all companies in Guangdong to abide by the regulations or law in the development, production, sale and service of their products. The scientific research, consultation, exhibition, teaching and testing activities should also be performed on a legal basis.

The standards also require members to pledge they will not counterfeit brand-name products, nor apply for or accept authentication from unqualified organizations.

The rules forbid the use of untrue publicity material or commercials and to avoid using the technological and commercial secrets of others.

China has more than 5,000 pharmaceutical companies, but lacks a set of national standards for the self-regulation of the profession.
