Honda Motor Co said sales of cars assembled in China were up 23 pct year-on-year at 22,977 units in August.

It said its joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group sold 20,421 units in the month, up two pct year-on-year, while sales from its joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp surged 231.8 pct to 6,666 units.

In the first eight months, sales rose to 193,582 units, up 17.1 pct.

Car sales in China grew to 378,000 units in August, up 29.21 pct from a year earlier, according to statistics released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
