Acer-Yahoo team up to expand market shares

   Date:2006/12/31

Acer Inc, Taiwan's biggest personal-computer maker, may raise market share in the US and the Chinese mainland after agreeing to make Yahoo its computers' default search engine and to distribute a co-branded Web browser toolbar.

Acer laptop and desktop computers will include a home page and browser toolbar from Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo starting on October 1, the companies said.

Yahoo is trying to boost usage of its services including e-mail, news and instant messaging through the accord with Taipei-based Acer, the first such agreement for both companies.

The computer maker, which shipped 2.8 million PCs in the second quarter, will use its association with Yahoo to raise awareness of its brand in the US and China's mainland.
