Chinese automobile exports increase in number, but decrease in value

   Date:2011/08/18

China's automobile exports in the first half of the year increased 50.22 percent, Economic Observer News reported earlier this week. However, average value of all vehicles exported decreased slightly from $12,300 last year to $12,200.

According to statistics compiled from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers and the General Administration of Customs, China exported 376,100 vehicles in the first half of this year, constituting 4.1 percent of all vehicles sold. The figures represent a large increase for the export market, which accounted for only 2.7 percent and 3.1 percent of vehicles sold in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Analysts pointed out that 2011 is the first year that passenger vehicle exports topped those of commercial vehicles (203,000 units compared to 173,100 units). However, average values of both types of vehicles, while increasing from last year, were still lower than they were in 2009.
