India's soymeal exports to China may double

   Date:2006/12/31

India's soymeal exports to China were likely to double to 1.4 million tonnes in the year ending October 2007 after China scrapped an import duty on Indian soymeal.

India has exported 700,000 tonnes of soymeal to China in the current year, and one would not be surprised if this volume goes up by 100 percent.

China scrapped a five percent tariff on imports of soymeal from India effective this month.

Total Chinese consumption of soymeal is 30 million tonnes annually and, if there were price parities, much bigger volumes could be absorbed by Chinese feed meals.
