South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region more than doubled its import of farm produce from ASEAN members in the first eight months of this year, thanks largely to cancellation of import duties on most of such products from the nations.
Between January and August, the region imported 142 million U.S. dollars worth of farm produce from ASEAN members, a year-on-year growth of 110 percent.
Of the total, 99 million U.S. dollars worth, or 70 percent, was realized in border trade, up 83.7 percent over the year-earlier level.
In the Jan.-Aug. period, the private sector bought 119 million U.S. dollars worth of farm produce from the ASEAN members, up 120 percent, while the foreign-funded companies bought 15.92 million U.S. dollars, up 130 percent.
Most of the arrivals came from Vietnam, involving 120 million U.S. dollars in import value, up 110 percent.
