New VW Sharan very likely to see Chinese production

   Date:2011/09/20

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 19) - As far as the Chinese market is concerned, mid-size minivans are a fairly uninspired lot, with little competition in a segment where the Buick GL8 and Guangqi Honda Odyssey dominate. Now Volkswagen wants to try their luck, bringing back the Sharan minivan once again to China, cheshi.com reported today. And with news that the Sharan name was found on the Environmental Protection list, there is a good chance that it may be seeing domestic production in the future.

The new generation Sharan measures 4.9 m long, 1.9 m wide and 1.7 m high, offering greater interior space than before. The Sharan's design is in VW's new style, taking its large head and rear lights from the Touran minivan and New Passat respectively. The lights come in either standard or Xenon versions, with the latter coming with LED-powered driving lights.

The Sharan will come with either 1.4 L turbocharged or a 2.0 L turbocharged engine options, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
