Taiwan-based notebook brand vendor Asustek Computer expects its notebook shipments in the fourth quarter to be at around 3.6 million units if the overall global economy does not fluctuate during the period, according to company CFO David Chang.

As for the third quarter, Asustek's notebook shipment volume is expected to be higher than its previous forecast of 3.6 million units.

However, due to exchange rate fluctuations and price competition in Europe, despite Asustek's shipments expectation to stay flat or rise, overall gross margins are still unsatisfactory, Chang added.
