The Economic Annual Conference of China's Information Industry 2011 was held on Dec. 2 in Beijing.
Zhou Zixue, the chief economist of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said the primary business income of China's electronic information industry had increased from 1.22 trillion yuan of 2001 to 7.8 trillion yuan of 2010, a more than five-fold increase, and the total number of people the industry employs increased from 3.12 million to 12 million.
"The extremely large flow of information will make the electronic information industry transfer to energy-intensive regions," Zhou said. It is the developmental trend of this industry and also a new opportunity for China's western regions, Zhou said.
