Acer to simplify product lines

   Date:2011/12/08

Acer, on December 7, hosted its global internal meeting and has decided to start simplifying its product lines in 2012 to help integrate its resources and will put its focus on niche products such as ultrabooks with expectations to turn a profit in 2012.

Sources from PC supply chain pointed out that first-tier PC brand vendors all have habits to open up as many product lines as possible to net all the consumer groups; however, such a strategy will cause difficulties for ODMs to prepare components and supply products, and if Acer can successfully simplify its product lines, the company should benefit over the management of its products.

However, although the company is set to simplify its product lines, company chairman JT Wang pointed out that the company's goal of seeing 10% on-year growth in 2012 shipments remains unchanged and the company also expects its ultrabook sales will reach 250,000-300,000 units by year-end.

For 2012, market watchers expect Acer's PC shipments will reach 40 million units.
