State Grid To Invest 300B Yuan In Smart Grid

The State Grid is planning more than 300 billion yuan of smart grid investments this year in order to resolve power supply problems faced by 400,000 citizens, reports Shanghai Securities News, citing the corporate social responsibility report published in Beijing yesterday. 

According to vice general manager, Cao Zhian, the State Grid completed the expansion of a 1,000 kV UHV line last year, allowing it to steadily transmit five million kV of power.

In addition, the operation of the grid in Qingzang resolved the problems of power supply shortages in Tibet, said Cao.

The State Grid had more than 42 million kV of installed wind power capacity last year.

The State Grid reported power transactions of 399.87 billion kV in 2011, an increase of 11.54 percent from 2010.

According to the State Grid, it proactively buys domestically produced equipment, and has set up a comprehensive procurement  mechanism covering 95 categories of equipment. It procured a total of 230.6 billion yuan worth of equipment in 2011 through a centralized procurement mechanism.
