Shenzhen-based internet company Tencent (0700.HK) will begin merging its Soso search engine into its wireless division this week, according to an industry source.

Two weeks ago, Tencent VP Wu Jun denied rumors that Soso would begin large-scale layoffs. A Tencent employee, speaking anonymously, said, "It will be hard to avoid staff cuts following the merger, but the company is unlikely to admit it."
