On-line search engines in China generated total revenues of 1.57 billion yuan (US$197.2 million) last year, growing by 69.1% from 2005.
The China market for on-line search service is on the rise, with the aggregate revenue from all providers increasing from 300 million yuan (US$37.3 million) in the first quarter of 2006 to 380 million yuan in the second quarter, 420 million yuan in the third quarter and 470 million yuan in the fourth quarter.
Baidu was the largest search engine in China, accounting for 53% of the aggregate revenue in 2006, followed by Google with 16% and Yahoo! China with 15%. Second-tier search engines such as Sogou, Sina, Zhongso and NetEase, had a combined market share of 12.8%.
