Passat and Magotan Win November B-class Vehicles Sales Champions, Japanese Brands Miss Top 3

   Date:2015/12/24
Passat and Magotan achieve a sales volume of 15,914 and 15,781 units respectively in November, winning the top 2 brands for a fifth time this year. Although the three Japanese brands’ sales volume all exceed 10,000 units in November, it’s quite possible that Camry, Teana and Accord will lose the top 3 places, compared with the Mistra’s excellent annual performance.

Magotan, Accord, Mondeo and Camry’s increasing sales volumes in November cannot change the fact that the medium- and high- class car market, encroached by SUVs, shows no signs of improvements throughout the year.

Data from CAAM shows that the November car production and sales volumes achieve 1.19m and 1.17m units respectively, increasing 10.19% and 9.12% with the same period of last year. SUV vehicles have a production and sales number of 723,300 and 716,200 units respectively, increasing 63.59% and 72.06%. SUV market’s growth is significantly higher than that of the car market, pushing the confronting B-class vehicle market into a difficult position.

From January to November this year, Passat and Magotan have a total sales volume of 189,403 and 146,601 units respectively, strong evidencefor winning annual B-class vehicle champions. However, the respective decrease of 9.4% and 26.7% reflects the sluggish car market and the declining performance of FAW VW and Shanghai VW in B-class vehicle market.

Accord’s November sales volume reaches 13,202 units, increasing 25.6%, ranking third in the sub-market. Camry and Teana sell 11,212 and 10,120 units respectively in November. Camry’s total sales volume this year reaches 118,484 units, far more than Accord’s and Teana’s but lagging behindof Mistra’s 137,875 units. It seems quite difficult for Camry to catch up with Mistra in the last month, resulting in the missing of ranking third. In this case, the Japanese brands will miss top 3 again this year.

Mondeo achieves a sales volume of 13,104 units in November, increasing 24.8%. Benefiting from the appearance, its annual sales volume is steadily increasing throughout the year.

Legal and Lacrosse have quite disappointing performances in November, with sales volume of 10,052 and 8,502 units and decrease of 0.8% and 1.7% respectively. The total volume of the two models from January to November this year only increase 1% to 1.8% compared with last year.

K5 and CC are much worse. K5’s sales volume reaches 4,935 units in November. Its total sales volume reaches 32,773 units from January to November, decreasing 35.8%. CC sells 3,554 units in November and 29,080 units this year, decreasing 13.7% and 33.7% respectively compared with the same period of last year, the greatest fall among all B-class brands.

As VW’s leading B-class model, CC is not important in terms of VM’s overall sales volume. But VM, now falling into the emission scandal, will most probably be frustrated by CC’sperformance.
