SAIC Motor in China recently reached cooperation with the government in Shanghai to jointly set up an alternative energy car rental service company in Jiading district of Shanghai. And it aims to promote more than 300,000 units of alternative energy vehicles over the next five years.

 

Based on the agreement, the partnership aims to create the largest alternative energy vehicles service company in the world in 2020 by taking three steps. In 2016, the time-phased rental service of alternative energy vehicles may cover the whole Shanghai, and more than 5,000 units of alternative energy vehicles will be promoted; in 2018, the business will be expanded to about 100 cities of China and even some foreign cities, and more than 50,000 units of alternative energy vehicles will be promoted; in 2020, the business may cover all major cities in China and several typical cities abroad, and more than 300,000 units of alternative energy vehicles will be promoted.

 

Now, SAIC has completed the basic layout of alternative energy vehicles. It has developed Roewe E50 as electric vehicles which can achieve a range of 220 km. As a plug-in hybrid model, Roewe e550 can achieve a range of 600 km. The latest data show that the sales of Roewe e550 reached 1,153 units in January this year, increasing by 231% compared to that of last year.

 

Next month, Roewe e950, the first high-end alternative energy vehicle, will be brought to market in order to satisfy the demands of high-end business market.
