A-class Vehicles in April: FAW Volkswagen accelerating layouts and Korean Brands standing out

   Date:2016/05/25
Compared with March, car market has a sales decline of 12.85% in April, decreasing 2.91% with the same period of last year. In line with the market environment, most models have declining sales volume but Jetta has a slight increase. Lavida faces a 32.6% decrease of 16,700 units, 20 percentage points higher than the average market. Besides, Santana also underperforms the market. Analysts believe the competitive power of Shanghai Volkswagen will be weakened when other main brands are upgrading models.

After a year-period accumulation, FAW Volkswagen is accelerating layouts in the market, including launching Bora, introducing Sportsvan, building North China Base and landing strategic plans. Bora, launched on March 20th, gradually steps into the mainstream A-class vehicle camp. Sagitar and Sportsvan also have steady performances this month.

It’s noticeable that Korean brands have outstanding performances in April. KIA K3 has a monthly increase of 3,429 units. Beijing Hyundai Elantra also has an increase this month and Elantra performs steadily in A-class market.

Geely and Chana perform best among self-owned A-class brands, with little difference between sales fluctuation and the average market performance. Data from CAAM shows that self-owned brands sell 170,000 units in April, decreasing 13.4% and taking 18.2% of market share, decreasing 2.3 percentage points.

Assistant Secretary-General of CAAM said,” Car market has the greatest competition, but we should notice the developments of self-owned brands, such as Geely Emgrand, GC9 and Chana Eado. In the future, self-owned brands will take their places in the market.”
