DATANG International Power Generation Co, the second-biggest Hong Kong-listed Chinese power producer, posted a 17 percent gain in second-half profit as it generated more electricity and after the government raised power prices.
Net income rose to 1.44 billion yuan (US$186.4 million) from 1.23 billion yuan a year earlier, based on figures Bloomberg calculated from full-year earnings. China, the world's second-biggest electricity user after the United States, experienced a fourth year of power shortages in 2006 as an economic growth rate of 10.7 percent boosted demand beyond capacity at peak consumption times.
