The country's wheat production is likely to be 73.7 million tonnes in 2006-07 against 69.35 million tonnes in 2005-06 as per the third advanced estimates released today.

The second advanced estimates put this year's wheat output at 72.5 million tonnes. Meanwhile, India's rice production is likely to be 91.05 million tonnes in 2006-07, according to the estimates which were released by the agriculture ministry.

Mustard production in Rabi is seen at 6.69 million tonnes compared to 8.13 million tonnes in 2005-06, down by nearly 18 per cent. Groundnut production is estimated to fall sharply by 47 per cent at 4.98 million tonnes, including both Kharif and Rabi, against 7.99 million tonnes in the previous year.

In pulses, tur (arhar) production, which is a Kharif crop, is estimated at 2.51 million tonnes in 2006-07 compared to 2.74 million tonnes in the previous year.
