RITTAL GmbH & Co, the world's largest manufacturer of industrial and data communication enclosures, will double its production capacity in China in the next few years as demand is spurred by the nation's growing manufacturing sector.

The German-based company will start construction of its second China production base in Wuhan, capital of central Hubei Province, this year, Zheng Qinghao, president of Rittal's China operations, said yesterday.

Zheng said construction of the new base should be complete by the end of next year, when Rittal will also finish its nationwide logistics network, in which Wuhan will play a central role, while Shanghai will serve as a logistic base for export purposes.

The new base will have similar capacity as its Shanghai base, operational for three years, company officials said. Its Shanghai base can make 600 standard units of cabinets and boxes a day.

Rittal, which had global sales of about five billion euros (US$6.82 billion) last year, saw the biggest increase in sales in the China market, where customers from automotive, power, IT and other manufacturing industries bought 40 percent more products than in 2005.
