THE Shanghai Lingang Economic Development Group said yesterday it will join forces with Colliers International by appointing the international real estate services provider as the exclusive global marketing consultant for the Lingang Industrial Area.

It's the first such cooperation between a domestic industrial zone and a global property agency, officials said.

Under the agreement, Colliers International will be responsible for the worldwide marketing, sales and leasing of land and facilities within the industrial area.

"With its strategic location at the junction of the Yangtze River Estuary and Hangzhou Bay and adjacent to the Yangshan Deep-Water Port, Lingang Industrial Area will certainly attract more multinational corporations as well as large domestic companies by joining hands with Colliers International, one of the world's leading property consultants," said Zhu Weiqiang, vice president of the Lingang group.

The four-phase Lingang Industrial Area, providing bases for the logistics and heavy equipment manufacturing industries, started construction in 2002 and had attracted 20 billion yuan (US$2.56 billion) in investment by the end of 2006. Total investment in the project, which will be mostly completed by 2010, could reach US$14.9 billion, according to Alan Liu, regional managing director for Colliers' north Asia operations.

Major clients of the Lingang Industrial Area now include companies from home and abroad such as Caterpillar, Maersk, DHL, K-Line and Shanghai Electric Group.
