THE city will promote a comprehensive emergency medicine style by having a team with doctors from all surgical departments work with emergency room doctors, said health experts at the Shanghai International Conference on Emergency Medicine and Trauma yesterday.

Over 340 experts from home and abroad took part in the meeting. "Traditionally, patients are treated by emergency doctors, who may have to page other departments if the cases involve various trauma," said Dr Sun Zhiyang, vice director of Shanghai East Hospital's Emergency Department. "However, the patients may die or miss the best treatment opportunity when other doctors arrive."

The hospital is the first in the city to always have doctors from other departments available in the emergency room.
