Taiwan's Formosa Chemicals & Fiber Corporation plans to restart its troubled purified terephthalic acid plant IN Ningbo, China, over the weekend after an unexpected shutdown at the end of July, a company source said Friday.
The 600,000 mt/year PTA plant was shut on July 29 due to a mechanical glitch, where some equipment had been damaged, the source said. FCFC has since then replaced the damaged machinery.
FCFC has four other PTA plants in Taiwan -- two in Mailiao each with a capacity of 550,000 mt/year, and another two units in Loong-der with capacities of 700,000 mt/year and 400,000 mt/year, respectively. All the units were running normally as of this week.
