Volvo targets China

SWEDISH car maker Volvo, owned by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, yesterday said it aims to boost China sales by 67 percent to 50,000 units this year.

Richard Snijders, president and chief executive of Volvo China Sales, said as part of its global revival plan, the car maker plans to increase dealerships to 127 in China by the end of the year and launch five new models, including a new S60 four-door saloon, to meet local demand.

Freeman Shen, senior vice president of Volvo Cars China, said plans for a Chinese plant in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is still awaiting government approval before construction can start.
