Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 5) - A punctured Kumho tire was discovered to be the culprit behind Ministry of Finance official Jia Kang's Hyundai Sante Fe losing control last week, 21cbh.com reported today.

Mr. Jia, member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and director of the Ministry of Finance's Research Institute for Fiscal Science, suffered a severe injury when he and his family were driving on the G2 Beijing-Shanghai Expressway. Mr. Jia's SUV, which had a total of 60,000 km on it, started to shudder violate before completely losing control and running into a guardrail. Sources later discovered that the SUV's left-front Kumho-brand tire had punctured.

A few days later, Mr. Jia sent a message declaring he would sue Kumho for damages. Mr. Jia also warned other owners to regularly change tires to minimize the risk of such accidents.

Kumho Tires have been under fire since a CCTV report airing earlier this year alleging the manufacturer's product of poor quality. Ever since the report, countless recalls regarding quality worries have been plaguing the manufacturer.
