In Guizhou, 16 out of 20plasma collection stations have been closed as of Aug. 1, 2011. However, Shanghai RAAS was not affected since it has not established any collection station in Guizhou Province. In order to guarantee sustainable supply of plasma, Shanghai RAAS is endeavoring to set up new plasma collection stations. The newly-added plasma collection stations located inBaisha, Qiongzhong and Baoting in Hainan Province are under construction and are expected to be launchedat the end of 2011 or H1 2012.
Along with the shut-down of plasma collection stations one after another in Guizhou, the volume of plasma collected in China will drop by around 20%, which will lead to the tight supply of blood products in China. Among the three major products of Shanghai RAAS, human serum albumin (HSA) has gained arelatively adequate supply due to favorable import policies. However, Human Immunoglobulin(Ph4) and small blood products have suffered short supply because theyrely on domestic enterprises instead of being imported from overseas. The large-scale shut-down in Guizhou Province will further widen the gap between supply and demand of the two products. Therefore, under the circumstances of sufficient supply of plasma, the price of Shanghai RAAS’ these two products islikely to go upin H2 2011.
