China Telecom Investments To Rise 13%

November 7 -- Investments in China's telecoms industry in 2011 will increase 13 percent year-on-year to 48 billion yuan in 2011, reports c114.net, citing the vice chairman of the China Federation of IT Promotion (CFIP), Deng Shoupeng.

Through the end of September, the number of domestic 3G users exceeded 100 million, with a penetration rate of 10 percent.

Smartphone production volume rose 22 percent year-on-year to 70 million units as of end September. The total number of new smartphone models launched increased 103 percent year-on-year to 340 models.

The number of new 3G users accounted more than 60 percent of the total new mobile users.

Deng said the total investments in the telecoms industry will exceed two trillion yuan during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, up 36 percent from the figure for the 11th Five-Year Plan.

According to the report, there are currently two TD-LTE commercial networks globally, and another 33 TD-LTE networks are undergoing trials.

The report forecast that the total number of TD-LTD base stations will hit 6,500 by the end of 2011, and approximate 30,000 in 2012.

Shares of China Mobile (0941.HK) fell 0.73 percent to trade at HK$74.70 per share at 14:25 today.
