November 22 – Bright Dairy and Food (600597.SH) put a factory in New Zealand into operation today, reports Shanghai Securities News. Bright Dairy and Food acquired a 51-percent interest in New Zealand-based firm Synlait Milk last year, and the subsidiary will operate the newly opened factory.
The facility reportedly has the company’s largest production line in terms of capacity. It will produce Pure Canterbury, a high-end infant milk powder offering.
Synlait Milk returned to profit in 2011 and generated sales of NZD$185 million in the first seven months of this year. The company employs just over 100 people, according to its official site.
Bright Dairy and Food general manager Guo Benheng said the company has positioned Synlait Milk as a supply base of high-end raw materials and products. Pure Canterbury, which is wrapping up presale procedures, will become the first brand of its kind in the mainland Chinese market, Guo added.
