Volkswagen becomes the bestselling car maker in South China

The German automobile giant Volkswagen which has a big ambition of becoming the global No1 car maker is now the best selling manufacturer in South China, according to Karl-Thomas Neumann, president and CEO of Volkswagen China, mentioned in the Chinese media reports.

It was mentioned that according to Dr. Neumann, VW's market coverage in South China has increased from 12 percent in 2008 to 15.8 percent this year. Meanwhile, the number of VW dealers has increased 25 percent in two years. VW hopes to break the two million sales barrier in China this year, according to Su Weiming, executive vice president for VW China. The manufacturer has also decided to invest 14 billion euros ($18.8b) in the South China region beginning next year.

It was reported that VW has sold 1.89 million vehicles in the country since the start of the year. VW branded vehicles made up over 1.4 million of that number, while Skoda sales accounted for 190,000 units. The sale of Volkswagen’s other subsidiary, Audi, have already matched its 2010 total, the reports mentioned.
