Taiwan-based ODM/JDM makers Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) and Compal Communications are expected to ship more than 10 million smartphones in 2012, while fellow maker Arima Communications will ship an estimated 8-10 million units, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.
Shipping 7-8 million smartphones in 2011, FIH has begun ODM/JDM production of Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) smartphones for Nokia and Android models for Motorola Mobility and Sony, and has obtained ODM orders from China-based vendors, the sources pointed out. FIH, therefore, will become the largest Taiwan-based ODM/JDM maker of smartphones in 2012, the sources indicated.
Compal shipped 3-4 million smartphones in 2011 and has obtained ODM/JDM orders for entry- and mid-level smartphones from Nokia, Motorola Mobility and China-based vendors, the sources pointed out.
Arima has received ODM/JDM orders from Motorola Mobility and Japan-based vendors, the sources noted.
