China Telecom is close to establishing a national cloud computing subsidiary out of Beijing that will service the whole of China, according to Hostingtecnews.com.
The website said the telco’s cloud strategy will be operated using virtual resources at established data centers designed to host its unified cloud management platform.
High speed connections will be set up between each data center.
The cloud platform will focus on enterprise-class services with hosting and storage a key focus.
Telstra to upgrade digital video network
Australian telecommunications group Telstra has signed a contract with Media Links for software, installation and operations support and maintenance for its new digital video network that will be used for broadcasting.
The MD8000 media transport system delivered by Media Links will fully replace Telstra’s cutrrent digital video networking and cover hundreds of locations across Australia.
The MD8000 system is designed to compress HP TV video transport across IP networks and SONET/SDH and is scalable between 10Mbps and 10Gbps.
STC CEO says Middle East will become bigger focus for internet
Saudi telco STC’s CEO Saud bin Majed Al-Daweesh told an industry forum this week that he believes emerging market countries will have more influence over the internet in coming years thanks the growing use in mobile devices and growth in telecommunications infrastructure.
He told the Arab Telecommunications and Internet Forum that he believes the Internet’s controlling hands will “shift from the western individuals and institutions to their counterparts in the emerging markets countries, eastwards”.
He said as a result, the telecommunications industry in Saudi Arabia will grow in coming years, along with its IT industry as it become more important for business and social growth.
STC became the first operator in its region to launch 4G services this year, at the same time as announcing it was working to improve its networks across 10 countries it already operates in.
